Visitors often ask me about hidden gems.

There's one place, nestled in the north-west part of Paris, where art-lovers who swarm to Paris often forget to go...

Musée Jaquemart-André

I recently spent a few hours lost in time at the wonderful Musée Jacquemart-André. Everytime I go there, I can't help being captivated by its charm. From the moment I stepped into the elegant 19th-century mansion, I felt transported into a world where art, architecture and personal stories meet.

The museum houses a fine collection of masterpieces but even just the interior design and architecture always leaves me in awe: undetectable from the street entrance (which is quite unremarkable), the inviting courtyard, the grand staircase, the beautiful salons, the garden-terrace—all contribute to an atmosphere of intimacy and refinement.

On that particular day, I quickly paced through the ornate rooms which make up the permanent collection - works of art and objects carefully gathered during a whole lifetime by the aesthete couple Édouard André and Nélie Jacquemart - to get to the object of my visit...

Georges de La Tour – Master of Candlelight at Musée Jacquemart-André ✨

I had the chance to visit the new Georges de La Tour: Master of Candlelight exhibition at the Musée Jacquemart-André, and it is absolutely magnificent.

Mysterious, haunting, and profoundly moving — La Tour’s world of shadows and quiet inner light is presented with sobriety and elegance.

This exhibition (running from 11 September 2025 to 25 January 2026) brings together more than 30 works, making it the most important French retrospective devoted to La Tour since 1997. When you realize the Lorraine painter was only rediscovered in the early 20th, seeing some of his most iconic paintings gathered in a compelling dialogue is very moving.

The Musée Jacquemart-André offers an intimate setting for his nocturnes: the rooms are dimly lit, the atmosphere serene, and the paintings seem to glow from within. Standing in front of these canvases, you truly feel the silence, the suspended moment, the candlelight revealing human fragility.

Whether you are passionate about the Baroque era or simply curious, this is an exhibition that stays with you long after you leave.

Tips if you're planning a visit to Paris

I warmly recommend discovering it with a certified private guide — La Tour’s subtle symbolism becomes even richer when placed in context.

One - important - piece of advice is: do avoid the weekends, as the rooms are quite small, and often filled with many admirers!

Once you do that, you'll enjoy a true moment of art and contemplation...
